5/1/2025: Press Release from ALUMINUM FISHING SERIES LLC
It’s been a discussion point around our sport since its inception, and we’ve always been on the fence about how we deal with it. Well, today is the day we take a stance.
SINGLE DAY EVENTS | OPENS & ELITE EVENTS ONLY
Starting in 2026, the use of Forward Facing Sonar (or “Livescope”) with applicable transducers will be banned from single day events in Opens and in the Elite series. It is the opinion of the AFS Board of Directors and investors that the use of FFS/Livescope for a single day event provides a unique and enhanced competitive advantage that is unwanted by the majority of our anglers.
To enforce this, FFS transducers must be removed from the vessel prior to tournament day 1, or at a minimum, have a lock box that prohibits its use for the entire day where another competitor or an AFS board member can hold the key for the duration of the event (similar to MLF lock boxes).
For official practice days, FFS/Livescope can still be used. This change does NOT impact the Aluminum Fishing League of Maine trail, which will still allow FFS/Livescope for the foreseeable future.
MULTI-DAY & SPECIALTY EVENTS
Additionally, for any multi-day or specialty event, there will be some form of restriction to FFS/Livescope that will communicated to the fields of those events via email and via website correspondance. The details of this restriction are yet to be decided and will be handled on a case-by-case, event-by-event basis.
For official practice days, FFS/Livescope can still be used.
